About the Class

Cosmetology is the study of the hair, skin and nails and their related care.  The Cosmetology Program at Russell County Career and Technology Center is a two year competency-based program (1080 hours) which meets the licensing requirements of the Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation.  The person seeking a career in cosmetology should be healthy, energetic and have good physical stamina. The ability to get along well with others is essential. 
 

Objectives:  Upon completion of the course requirements, the determined graduate will be able to:

  1. Project a positive attitude and a sense of personal integrity and self-confidence.
  2. Practice effective communication skills, visual poise, and proper grooming.
  3. Respect the need to deliver worthy service for value received in an employer-employee relationship.
  4. Perform basic manipulative skills and analytical skills pertaining to haircutting, hairstyling, coloring services, texture services, manicuring, pedicuring, and other related areas of cosmetology.
  5. Apply learned theory and technical information to assure sound judgments, decisions, and procedures.

 

To ensure continued career success, the graduate should continue to learn new and current information related to skills, trends, and methods for career development in cosmetology and related fields.

·         Industry DVDs and video tapes, periodicals, and other reference books are available to support the course of study and supplement student training.  Students are encouraged to make use of these materials.

                   Haircutting, Hairstyling, Braiding, Wigs, Chemical Texture Services, Haircoloring

«  Skin Care: Histology, Hair Removal, Facials, Makeup

«  Nail Care: Structure and Growth, Manicuring and Pedicuring, Advanced Nail Techniques

«  The Business of Cosmetology: Salon, Employment, On the Job
